Diesel Additive System
Overview
As ongoing improvement in diesel fuel technology is realised, new products to the market can enhance performance. Our Client, therefore, has the requirement to enhance their diesel fuel by dosing with an additive.
Vecta were engaged to deliver the additive dosing system project end-to-end.
Scope
The scope of work included the following:
Detail design
HAZOP facilitation and documentation
Piping, structural and equipment sketches and layouts
Site installation, with Vecta personnel (staff and trade)
Commissioning, including Operational procedures
Project QA compilation and closeout
Challenges
Due to Customer demands, the timeframe for these works was compressed to meet the market. The system also required technical material and equipment selection due to the nature of the fluid being conveyed. During site installation, the tanker loading gantry bays were in full operation, making planning and co-ordination with site operations critical, both for access to the site and safety of personnel.
Solutions
With complete control of the end-to-end process, Vecta were able mitigate the traditional delays associated with separate design/engineer companies and procure/construct companies. With in-house resources responsible for all stages, the processes associate with this type of work could be expedited. Vecta was also able to ‘design in’ installation, operational and maintenance enhancements with the input of experienced personnel during in-house constructability review sessions.
With careful planning, a substantial part of the work was designed to be constructed off-site in workshop conditions, in a modularised approach. This methodology significantly reduced the on-site installation duration and was a major contributor to the work being brought into service ahead of schedule. With Vecta’s audit and review processes and commissioning oversight, the system was delivered with a flawless start-up.
Outcomes
The diesel additive dosing system was delivered ahead of time and on budget. More importantly, there were zero incidents. The Client was able to meet their Customer requirements and market demands.
