Pipeline Coating Assessment
Overview
Our Client supplies approximately a quarter of all Australia's petroleum products. They include petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), diesel, aviation fuel, propylene, solvents and bitumen. The Melbourne distribution terminal receives stores and distributes fuel products via existing pipelines.
The surface coating condition of the product pipelines required assessment to ascertain a structured and methodical repair program, systematically ensuring the protection of the integrity of the parent pipeline material.
Scope
The scope of work included the following:
Rationalising existing general piping layout drawings into a single layout diagram
Mapping of the as built pipework, and subsequently updating the overall layout diagram
Inspecting and assessing pipework using the client engineering specification as the basis
Reporting of condition within a database to enable sorting to different variables
Costing of repair program for inclusion in budget preparation
Challenges
Over 15km of pipework within current distribution terminal
Existing drawings required significant updating to reflect installed pipework
Pipework complexity complicated general layout mapping
Solutions
Site grid system used as the basis of recording data
Systematic approach ensured complete assessment of pipework, and maintained efficient resource utilisation
Constant updating of recorded data confirmed information integrity
Outcomes
Greater than 15km of pipework inspected and mapped
Database developed to quickly interpret data
Photos of pipework, within grid matrix, enabling visual reference of specific piping areas
Budget pricing obtained from specialist subcontractors to link into repair program budget allocation
